Demo Artist: Heather Saxon Porter

face painter paintin a green skull on a females face

Meet Heather Saxon-Porter, a face painter based in East Cambridgeshire who has been bringing colour and creativity to events for the past six years. Her love of art, however, goes back much further. She first began experimenting with creative makeup and the occasional bit of body painting back in 2000. Then, in 2019, her husband volunteered her to paint faces at his work’s family picnic. After a quick bit of Googling and an afternoon of painting, Heather realised she had found the perfect job for her.

Heather has become known for her traditional sponge and brush techniques, clean and crisp linework, beautiful teardrop masks, and, perhaps unexpectedly, her love of painting monsters. Inspiration often comes from other artists who share her passion for flow and linework, but she always keeps the child’s perspective in mind. Her goal is to create designs that capture the imagination of both children and the young at heart.

One of Heather’s proudest achievements so far has been creating classes for global face painting platforms and, more recently, stepping into in-person teaching. Sharing her skills with others has opened a whole new chapter in her career, and it’s something she finds both exciting and rewarding.

Heather is also looking forward to taking the stage at the FACE Conference in January 2026. She’ll be demonstrating her approach to creating designs that not only look beautiful but also flow seamlessly from one element to the next. Her live demo, Magical Halloween Mask with a Twist, will showcase spongework and blending techniques, linework and flow theory, and clever character placement. Attendees will see how these skills can be applied to day-to-day painting jobs, while also learning how to create designs that tell a story.

For Heather, storytelling is at the heart of what she does. She hopes that everyone watching her demo will leave with the confidence to combine spongework and linework in their own way, developing designs that flow smoothly and really wow their clients. As she puts it, when you follow the flow of the design, you follow the story.
